At the rough end of Europe, darkness may be lifting, but the sword still speaks loudest. And Normandy intends to be heard.

Turold d’Abetot is a second son. Too short for Norman knighthood, too stubborn for a priest. But he has rarer gifts. A voice that speaks directly into the minds of the powerful. A ring that binds him to a creature of dubious morality. At a time when war with Brittany is on the horizon, Turold is a teller of tales, a witness to  - and sometime shaper of - events.
